Beuge
Historical background:
In the 16th century, two residential towers dominated the valley of Näfels. Over time, they were extended to form a single building, today's "Beuge" and the "Hauser-Haus", which suffered historical losses due to interventions in the 20th century. This was followed by a period of increasing vacancy and lack of maintenance. Over the years, the buildings were considered an eyesore and were on the verge of being demolished.
Restoration, 2019 – 2023 on behalf of a cooperative for retirement housing:
Modern elements were integrated and the remaining valuable substance was preserved. Inside, the bow impresses with baroque style elements from 1684. The baroque façade was also reconstructed. The Hauser House has features of the late Gothic and early Renaissance from 1584. Its façade was designed in a Gothic style. The central element of the two buildings is the new staircase, which creates a connection both vertically and horizontally between the different floors of the two buildings. All 12 newly created spacious apartments are barrier-free and age-appropriate, which is particularly remarkable for buildings of this type. Private terraces, a communal garden, a café as well as a guest apartment and a holiday apartment expand the possible uses and show how the restoration transformed the buildings into one of the liveliest and most impressive buildings in Näfels.
